How to use this site

Welcome to OLLI at Penn State's new website. You'll find the same information that existed on our previous site, perhaps arranged differently. You'll also find lots more we could never include on our former site. Click one of the links below for a quick tour of some of the new features, then spend some time exploring the site....welcome!

Getting Around the Site

You'll find two "navigation" elements to help you move around the site. On the left side you'll find our main navigation menu as shown below. This is a cascading menu that will expand as you click on certain menu items.

This menu will appear on every page and you can select a new link from any page on the web site.

New items on the menu that you might want to explore include links to FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), a Forms/Downloads page that contains many of the forms and documents members need, a Links page that connects you to any of OLLI's partner organizations and a More Contacts page that provides contact information for many of the people you might need to reach within OLLI. On the More Contacts page you are able to click on someone's name to send them an email message. The Newsletter and Catalog pages allow you to view the current newsletter and catalog respectively, while the OLLI Archives page contains links to past issues of OLLI newletters and catalogs and past OLLI events of interest.

The members of the Tech Team will be evolving this site based on input from OLLI members, so share your thoughts. You'll find an entry in More Contacts to send us your thoughts, or click here.

Along the top of each page on the site you find a navigation bar as shown here. This menu appears near the top left corner of every page. The Home link will allow you to quickly get back to the Home Page (the opening page on the site). About Us tells you about OLLI and Contact Us will allow you to get in touch with the OLLI Office. The Help link will display this help page. top

User Controls

A new feature of this site are the user controls found in the upper right portion of the screen, as shown here.

You'll find three "color squares" that will allow you to change the color of the navigation elements of the web site, useful if you have difficulty seeing certain colors.

You also see "A"s with a + or - sign to allow you to increase or decrease the size of the letters on the site.

The symbols >< and <> will allow you to adjust the size that is used to display the site content. Explore each of the above user controls to set how you want the OLLI website to appear.

You'll also find a Search Bar here....type in a few words and press the Enter key on your keyboard to seach the site for your particular item. top

OLLI Calendar

At the bottom of main navigation menu, you'll find a Calendar link to OLLI's Event Calendar as shown here. The < and > arrows that appear on either side of the month will allow you to move backward or forward by one month at a time.

If you click on a date, the events for that day will be displayed.

When on the calendar page, you'll be able to display the calendar by day, week, or month. You can display events by Category, such as Trips, Special Interest Groups, etc., by choosing the Categories view.

You can search the calendar using the search bar on the calendar page...enter a few words and click "go". top

Course Navigation

The Tech Team has implemented a new way for you to locate the courses of interest to you. The course details are exclusively found in the Course Catalog. To access the catalog/courses information:

• Click on the Catalog/Courses link in the main menu. The Current Catalog page appears. There you can follow the link to the current catalog containing course details. The main menu list will expand to include an On-line Course Registration Form link as well.

• Once the Catalog is open, locate the bookmark icon on one side of the catalog page.

• Click the bookmark icon and a panel will appear with bookmark links to the course categories. Bookmarked links are also available for the Course Schedule, Registration Procedures, Registration Form for printing, and other items of interest.
  

• Clicking on a course category link will take the user to the page in the catalog containing courses in that category (ex. Art, Music, and Dance).

• If you are interested in courses held on a particular day of the week, clicking on the Course Schedule Page 1 or 2 link will open a course schedule with course listings for each day of the week that courses are held. This schedule is interactive, so that clicking on the course will bring the course details into view. To return to the Course Schedule, click on the Course Schedule bookmark again.
  

• Single Session courses are marked with shaded backgrounds in the Course Schedule pages.
